Football, fun, raffles and more as Redditch remembers Ollie Sellers

Redditch Editorial 19th Aug, 2021   0

THE Ollie Sellers Memorial Football Game is back in Redditch and scheduled for this Sunday, August 22.

Nearly 60 players have volunteered to play with a rolling programme of entertainment planned.

Not only that but fans will be able to try for some fantastic raffle prizes including a Wembley tour, England football tickets, 4-ball golf days, a balloon ride, helicopter flight and two £100 vouchers for Gymshark – as well as a host of other great prizes.

This year, as usual, it’s all in aid of the road safety charity Brake and the event will also be sharing the love in memory of Chris ‘Oggy’ Langham and his family’s nominated charity, The Salvation Army.

Oggy and Ollie both played for Inkberrow FC and it will be a poignant day for both their families.

Ollie, died on May 27, 2017 when a reckless driver crashed into the side of his car while using her mobile phone as she drove along the A4023 Coventry Highway in Redditch.

His death struck a chord with the big hearted people of Redditch and since then the charity football match in his honour has raised thousands of pounds for Brake.

Ollie’s dad Paul said: “It’s been humbling to feel the warmth of people to support this event.

“Brake is such an important charity; it helped us understand the situation when Ollie died and if we can do something to improve road safety and save lives, then it is all worthwhile.”

The game kicks off at 1pm at Redditch Borough FC’s ground which is at the Mettis Sports Club, Cherry Tree Walk, Batchley, Redditch, B97 6PB.

There will also be a friendly game beforehand between Inkberrow and Feckenham.

It’s going to be a family event with a bouncy castle, bungee run, clubhouse bar and kitchen and those great raffle prizes.

The last game was in August 2019 and raised over £2,400.00 and every penny raised will go to the two nominated charities.
