FORMER investment banker from Redditch has started a new career as a midwife at 61-years-old.
Claire Slater recently started her dream job in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital after completing her training at the University of Worcester last summer.
“Ever since I was 10-years-old I’d always dreamed of doing it as a career.
Unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes,” said Claire.
Claire has previous experience at Worcestershire’s hospitals but never as a midwife.
She began working life as an auxiliary nurse at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, before becoming a radiography technician at the same hospital.
“I left these roles to have my children, which led me down a different path,” said Claire.
A successful career in investment banking in London followed, including a spell as a regional director of a large multi-national company.
Claire added: “People have said to me ‘why are you doing this? Why don’t you just retire?’ But to me, age is just a number.
“You’re never too old to start something new.
I really love it here, I’m not just in this for the short-term.”
