MARION Cargill, former mayor of Alcester has died at the age of 92.
Born in Gas House Lane, Alcester in December 1923. She served with the Wrens during the war and it was during that time she met her future husband, David Cargill. They were later married in St Nicholas church, Alcester.
Marion was a popular figure about town and Alcester was always at the centre of everything she did.
Marion was a lifelong member and president of the Women’s Institute, a member of the Royal British Legion and a poppy seller for many years.
She was a regular churchgoer and was involved in many other local organisations.
A true Alcestrian, she leaves a daughter Deborah and son Mark and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held in St Nicholas church at 2.30pm on Friday, May 13.
Mark, also a town and district councillor said: “She was well known for her community spirit and sense of duty. While a member of Alcester Town Council she was made the first Mayor of Alcester, something she was always very proud of.”
