A MARKETING drive may have once described the Land Rover as the ‘best 4×4 by far’ but four people had to be rescued from the roof of their Land Rover Discovery after it got stuck trying to ford the River Alne.
The quartet, two men and two women, were attempting to cross the Old Ford between Great Alne and Aston Cantlow at 10.20pm on Wednesday, February 1 when the vehicle got stuck in deep water.
The foursome clambered on to the roof and called for help and Fire and Rescue teams from Alcester and Rugby raced to the rescue.
A spokesperson said: “When crews arrived, four people were sat on the roof of the vehicle, totally unharmed and in no immediate danger. Rescue was performed by the water rescue team based out of Rugby Fire Station.
“Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service would like to remind residents that warning signs that fords are impassable are in place for a reason and should not be ignored.”
