FRAUDSTERS have been ordered to pay back thousands of pounds which they stole from elderly and vulnerable residents in Worcestershire.
The gang, made up of three brothers from Chipping Norton – Mohammed Nasir Miah, Mohammed Nawaz Miah and Mohammed Nazeem Miah – were given confiscation orders at Worcester Crown Court last Friday.
Two other members, Rejwanul Islam of Dagenham and Mohammed Kasheem of Camden, also received the orders from Judge Cartwright.
They were found guilty of telephone and courier fraud offences between April and June 2016, stealing more than £200,000 from unsuspecting people.
The five men, who face jail if they do not repay the victims within three months, also committed fraud offences across Warwickshire, Cumbria, West Midlands, Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Thames Valley.
Detective Inspector Emma Wright said: “The orders recognise the life-changing amounts taken from some of these victims.
“The defendants have been ordered to pay what they have available in assets, the total amount will remain outstanding for life until every penny has been repaid.
“If they are found to have further assets at any time in the future, the amount they must repay will be raised until they have paid back what they took from the victims.”
