A HOST of free, egg-citing Easter activities will take place in Redditch later this month.
The events, organised by the Redditch Mission Area – a group of 12 churches in the town – will run from 10am to 4pm between March 26 and 28 at Unit 6 in New Walk in the Kingfisher Centre.
The location was used by the group for its popular Christmas toy appeal, which saw 1,520 gifts provided for youngsters of all ages across the borough.
While that activity ensured all children had at least one present to open, Elaine Whitfield said it also revealed a ‘spiritual hunger’ in the town.
Elaine, the church and mission support coordinator for the Redditch Mission Area, said: “Something happened that had never done so before – we had parents and children asking for Bibles. So we bought some and delivered them.
“And there was one teenager who said the only thing she wanted for Christmas was a youth Bible.”
As a result, and in addition to a variety of themed activities, the ‘Easter blessings’ event will involve free Easter eggs and age-appropriate Bibles – while stocks last.
Elaine added: “What families also told us was that there was not a lot to do in the town for them and their children.
“So whether you want to join the high-energy fun, find a moment of peace at our prayer tree, or simply pop in for a chat our doors are open to everyone.
“In the spirit of the season, the Redditch Mission Area wants to ensure every participant leaves with a blessing.”
Easter blessings will offer activities for all ages over the two days, including arts and crafts, a quiet place for those seeking reflection, egg-and-spoon races and a prayer tree, where people can leave their hopes and thoughts. There will also be a challenge asking participants to design packaging to protect a hen’s egg in a bid to keep it in one piece when dropped to the floor.
Redditch mum Chloe Venables said: “I think easter blessings will be really useful for everyone – I struggle with support and there is not a lot in the town for us to do.
“It will be nice to have some activities to participate in and celebrate Easter surrounded by other families.”
