From the couch to 5k course set to get underway in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 28th Jan, 2024   0

A NEW Couch to 5k course started this week in Redditch offering residents the chance to take up running for free.

The specially designed running programme takes participants from novice to completing their first 5k in only nine weeks.

The course has seen many newbies successfully graduate previously and continue their running journeys.

The weekly sessions are led by Run Leaders who hold official qualifications from England Athletics and provide a course fully endorsed by the NHS.

Participants are encouraged to do homework runs each week following the plan, where they can listen along to downloadable podcast episodes which have been designed to support new runners through their solo runs, as well as having important information accessible in a free app.

Redditch Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure, Coun Joanne Beecham, said: “Our Couch to 5k programmes have proved popular for over a decade and we are pleased to be continuing to provide these sessions for free for our residents.

“It is important for residents to stay active, but it is equally as important to be able to provide a place where residents can socialise and be part of a community – whilst taking advantage of some of the wonderful leisure assets we have access to in the borough.”

The sessions take place on Mondays at 7pm at Arrow Valley Lake, Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Thursday at 9.15 am at the Abbey Stadium Track and Sundays 9.30am at the Abbey Stadium Track.
