THE SEASON finale of this summer’s Bandstand event did not disappoint as the streets were filled with dancers and music over the weekend, writes Lauren Jeal.
The Bandstand’s grand finale on Saturday (September 17) saw hundreds crowd around Church Green, including Mayor Joe Baker and Coun Bill Hartnett (Lab, Church Hill).
The event included several live bands, activities for the youngsters, stalls, dancers who pranced through the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
Coun Hartnett said: “It was the final bandstand event of the year and was really well supported by the people of the town.
“We had a samba band, music from the bandstand itself, the funfair, all sorts of things going on and I look forward to next year’s event.
“I’d also like to thank Sue Yeng for all her hard work in putting this event on.”
Organiser Sue Yeng said: “The event was amazing. The highlight was seeing all the children from different communities coming together all dressed up, making such an effort for the competition.
“The whole day was brought to life by the zumba dancers, Oya Batucada.
“I just really want to thank all the stall holders and all those regulars who have continued to support the bandstand throughout the season.
“It has been amazing to celebrate our community.”
