A DEVASTATED Redditch man is to hold a fund-raising disco and charity sports auction as a thank you for the care he and his family received at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Stephen Bamber’s family are still reeling after losing their daughter-in-law in a car crash that left their eight-year-old granddaughter Jasmine with brain damage.
For three weeks the family stayed in the hospital’s home from home, the Ronald McDonald House, so they could be close to the youngster’s side, and it was all totally free of charge.
Now to say thank you for the care they received there they are holding the event at South Redditch Sports & Social Club off Throckmorton Road on Saturday, March 18.
“They were fantastic, without them I don’t know what we would have done,” said Stephen, of Honeychurch Close, Smallwood. “From the first night to the last we had a room with an en suite and all paid for by charity.
“We’d like to raise money for everything, from the air ambulance to the hospital itself, but I never knew Ronald McDonald House existed until we needed it, and how we needed it.”
The car crash happened last November and brave little Jasmine has now been transferred from Birmingham to Tadworth Court, a specialist centre for children with brain injuries in Surrey.
“We don’t know what the future holds for her, she just stares into space, but we know she’s getting the best possible care,” said Stephen.
His friends and colleagues have rallied round to lay on the disco on March 18 and persuade some top sports people to give up some memorabilia for the auction. The fun starts at 7.30pm and entry is just £2. All will be welcome.
In addition a quiz night and raffle are planned for Easter Sunday at the Kings Arms in Redditch at 6.30pm.
