Fundraising really takes off at Redditch Morrisons

STAFF at Morrisons in Redditch have been going all out to raise vital cash to help young people suffering with cancer.

The charity Together for Short Lives – which supports the local Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester – is the supermarket giant’s chosen charity in the whole of the UK.

On Wednesday the Warwick Highway store was visited by a giant butterfly, the logo of Together for Short Lives, as part of a nationwide drive for each store to raise £500 for the charity on that day.

However, thanks to the generosity of its customers and the big hearted endeavours of the store’s staff, the Redditch supermarket has gone not one, but two better.

The store’s community champion Bev Allington said: “Our store is not only happy to raise £500 but two members of staff also decided to do a skydive.

“Karl Watkins from our bakery team and Brian Bowers from home and leisure did tandem skydives from 12,000ft last weekend in Nottingham which raised £1,180.

“Not only that but the Morrisons Foundation will match fund that for us making a fantastic £2,360.

“Non of this could be achieved without the support from our store manager Ben Smith who himself has completed the Three Peaks Challenge and is doing the Great North Run in September for the same charity.

“We could not achieve any of this without our fantastic staff and customers who as always have been so very generous and supportive.”

To further support the charity Bev popped over with a poster of the butterfly to Acorns Childrens Hospice in Worcester last week to get the children there to colour it in.

This was then framed and auctioned off on Wednesday to the highest bidder with all money raised going to Together for Short Lives.
