Further £2.5m boost to Redditch from Shared Prosperity Fund

REDDITCH has received a £2.5million funding boost through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The UKSPF allows local communities to invest in local priorities from regenerating high streets, to tackling economic decline, and will help reverse geographical inequalities – with areas in greater need receiving more support, but every place receiving funding.

The funding is part of the Government’s mission to level up the UK, by ensuring where an individual is born does not determine the success and opportunities afforded to them.

As part of this investment, £2,502,050 has been awarded to Redditch Borough Council.

The town’s MP Rachel Maclean said she was delighted with the news.

“I am incredibly proud of Redditch and know that our best days lie ahead.

“Ever since I was first elected I have been determined to work with the Government to ensure that everyone from our town is not held back by inequalities which still exist.

“That is why I welcome the investment of £2.5m for Redditch Borough Council which will support our overriding mission to unlock our town’s full potential.

“I will be working with the borough council, local businesses and voluntary groups to decide how this funding will be spent.

“This investment will help to reduce inequalities that have been left untouched for too long.”

This money is being given to councils and local leaders who best know what their communities need – helping to slash bureaucracy and support communities in seizing new opportunities.

This new funding is in addition to £15.6m Town Deal Redditch has previously been awarded and confirms the Government has fulfilled its commitment to match previous EU funding on social and regional development.

Councillor Matt Dormer, Leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “Ever since Conservatives took control of the Borough Council, we’ve been working flat out to unlock Redditch’s full potential.

“We’re moving our town forward, first with the £15.6m Town Deal we’ve been awarded and now we can go further using the £2.5m from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

“We will continue to deliver for local residents.”
