Further delay to discuss Traveller planning application branded 'farcical'

Redditch Editorial 6th Mar, 2020   0

A MEETING to discuss a planning application for a site for travellers between Redditch and Studley has been branded as farcical after Stratford Councillors once again delayed making a decision.

The part retrospective application is for ‘a residential caravan site for two pitches for occupation by a Gypsy Traveller Family with associated hard standing, package treatment plant, utility blocks, storage sheds and dog runs.’

The Travellers arrived on the Green Belt site back in June 2019 and lodged the planning application some weeks later.

However eight months on and District planners for the second time deferred approving or refusing it.

Stratford’s agreed policy is to defend and maintain the Green Belt between Redditch and Studley against all development.

Despite this the council’s own officers have recommended it for approval on a temporary, three year basis, despite knowing this could set a precedent for everywhere else in the district.

The application has received 59 letters of objection and one in favour and both the local District Councillors and representatives the Parish Council spoke against it.
