Gearing up for annual Apple Day at Headless Cross Community Orchard

THE POPULAR ‘Apple Day’ at Headless Cross Community Orchard takes place next Saturday, October 22, between 11am and 3pm.

The event comes ‘juiced in time’ for the annual apple harvest and, organised by volunteers, it features activities to ‘a-peel’ to all ages, including families.

Activities include apple juicing, live music, games, stalls, local food and cider.

Orchard volunteer Alistair Waugh said: “Apple Day has been at the core of our events on Headless Cross Community Orchard, since we planted it in 2009.

“It really brings out the community.

“So after two years off, we’re delighted to be able to celebrate the humble apple again, and with such a fantastic line-up of acts and activities.

“It’s not just about apples! But we try.

“We encourage folks to bring along their surplus apples for juicing.

“And any surplus garden produce or plants for our ‘harvest share’ stall.

“There’s also the homemade cider contest, and cider bar, along with community stalls and local food.”

Families can also take part in what promises to be a riotous ‘Apple Olympics’

The event is free and compered by Rubery writer and former Birmingham Poet Laureate Spoz.

It also features the Nancy Butterfly Morris Dancers performing, along with French horn ensemble ‘Hornymental’, guitarist Alan Sheward, and folk-trio Revenge of the Wrinklies.
