Get Redditch spick and span for the Queen

Redditch Editorial 4th Mar, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A RALLYING call has gone out to residents across Redditch, urging them to tidy up their neighbourhoods as part of a clean scheme ahead of the monarch’s 90th birthday.

‘Clean for the Queen’ has been organised by Keep Britain Tidy and is backed by Redditch Borough Council, which is offering to lend equipment to people to give them a helping hand.

Those organising litter-picks for their area will be able to get litter-pickers and special ‘Clean for the Queen’ refuse bags, along with help, advice and support.

Councillor Debbie Taylor, portfolio holder for environmental services, said the litter-picks would help people show some local community spirit and raise awareness of the issue of litter which costs Redditch Borough Council almost £940,000 per year to clean up.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley will join forces with Conservative group leader Coun Juliet Brunner at Matchborough Centre on Saturday (March 5) and members of community groups to get Matchborough spick and span.

A warm invitation is extended to all residents to join pupils from Matchborough First School and RSA Academy Arrow Vale, local police, PACT panel and staff from McDonald’s from 10am.

Similarly, Church Hill Big Local Partnership will team up with Moon’s Moat Conservation Group (MMCG) to not only get Church Hill clean and tidy but to help raise awareness of Moon’s Moat scheduled ancient monument.

Everyone is invited to meet the group at their large green gazebo off Arley Close, in front of the monument, at 10am on Saturday. Hot drinks and cake will be available.

Brockhill is also in on the action next Saturday. Residents will be meeting on March 12 at Brockhill Park Notice Board at 10am while Alcester locals can get involved by meeting at the Jubilee Centre at 10am on St Faith’s Road.

Meanwhile, the Studley in Bloom team will be leading their Queen for the Clean effort this Saturday, meeting at 10am at Pool Road car park.
