A CALL has gone out for the budding bards of Redditch to start writing scripts for a series of plays to be staged at the Palace Theatre.
It comes as the county’s leading new theatre and writing showcase announces that it’s heading to Redditch on May 18 and is calling for new work.
Jump Start is an initiative run by Worcestershire Arts Partnership, supported by Worcestershire County Council, to provide opportunities for new theatre work to be performed.
The current project is looking for new theatre work not previously been performed.
It needs to be between 10 to 15 minutes long and low-tech.
The performances require the work to be rehearsed and ‘off-script’, ideally from Worcestershire-based performers.
Previously there have been successful performances at the Malvern Cube and the project has so far showcased more than 35 new plays and performances by theatre makers in the county and wider region.
Project co-ordinator Steve Wilson said: “We are delighted to be taking Jump Start to the Palace and to work with the team there.
“We know there are many writers and theatre makers in the town and surrounding areas and we’re looking forward to getting new work and seeing what they come up with.”
Dave Wilkins from The Palace is also very positive about Jump Start: “We are delighted to be able to host this event in the Palace Studio and hope residents will give it their full support and take this opportunity to display their writing talent and potential.”
The performances are open for anyone to attend.
Entry is free with a recommended donation of £5 per person.
