GlastonBeoley Festival off to a rocking start at new Redditch home

THE GlastonBeoley Music Festival got off to a cracking start last night, Friday, June 30 and continues today, Saturday, from midday ’til late.

With 38 bands performing, there’s something for everyone and Friday night saw six outfits playing ‘on the field’ and seven in the clubhouse, writes Ross Crawford.

Tuesday! got the festival underway at 5pm and as the evening progressed The Mighty Boing had everyone up and dancing with their ska infused rock.

And plaudits to the British Sign Language expert who danced her heart on stage while simultaneously doing BSL.

This paved the way for Friday night headline band Vaseline to take to the stage to top a great evening out.

Meanwhile in the clubhouse Daniel Mitchell had got the evening underway and by the time Sofa took to the stage – featuring renowned Redditch musician Clem Dalloway and his son Connor – the building was rocking.

Their set of Blues and Rock set feet tapping and air guitars going and were followed by hot duo Dos Villanos with Pale Riders closing the live evening before a DJ took to the decks.

The festival continues today, Saturday, July 1, with some 23 bands scheduled to play.

Plus there are mini fair rides, pony rides, pygmy goats and more as well as food and drink stalls.

Hard to pick a favourite but All Killer top the bill and don’t miss Hatstand (3pm) or Bhangra Smash Up (7.15pm).

It all promises to be a great event.

It’s happening at the Bromsgrove Road HQ of Redditch Rugby Cricket and Hockey Club – just outside the town centre – with all musicians playing for free and every penny raised going to local charities.

Tickets are £15 each with children under 16s free.
