GlastonBeoley is go, live and in your living room this weekend

Redditch Editorial 5th Jun, 2020   0

THE show goes on at GlastonBeoley – live and in your living room – and it’s all happening this weekend, June 6-7.

The much-loved music festival is taking to the worldwide web with two days of livestreaming featuring some terrific acts.

“It’s going to be the live GlastonBeoley lockdown festival,” said organiser Debbie Joynes, one half of the band Imaner.

“We’ve got five artists livestreaming or doing videos from 4pm tomorrow and more from 2pm on Sunday.

“Me and Dave will be playing in the back garden – from a safe distance from each other – and that should be really nice as I haven’t seen him for three months.”

GlastonBeoley has in the past raised thousands of pounds for charity and Debbie is hoping that anyone tuning in to the festival – which will be on the GlastonBeoley Facebook page, will also make a contribution to this year’s good causes – Redditch NightStop, Redditch Baby Bank, Redditch Special Olympics and Noah’s Star.

“People don’t have to donate, and we know money is tight at the moment with the lockdown and everything, but if they could then that would be great because there are a lot of charities out there struggling at the moment,” she said.

As an incentive all those who donate will have their names put in a hat with the winners collecting a pair of weekend tickets for next year’s festival and two GlastonBeoley T-shirts.

The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on arts and culture with gigs, concerts and events cancelled right across the country.

This year GlastonBeoley was to be held at The Portway home of Birmingham-Solihull Rugby Club and spread over two days instead of just one.

“About two weeks ago I thought, yeah, let’s do it, and it’s been full on ever since,” said Debbie.

“At least this year we don’t have to worry about the weather.

“And people have been saying they’ll pitch a tent in the garden to get the authentic atmosphere, or in their living rooms, and get the beers in.

“The artists have really got onboard too – people just want to play and help out.”

To join the gig tomorrow, just search for GlastonBeoley on Facebook, and enjoy!
