GLORIOUS sunshine greeted the Remembrance Sunday parade in Astwood Bank as what seemed like the whole village turned out to show their support.
The day marking the centenary of the ending of the First World War started with a gathering outside St Matthias and St George’s Church in Church Road before a service inside conducted by Mike Spender, chaplain of the Royal British Legion with the lesson read by RBL secretary Sheila Lawes with intercessions from Pam Emery, the first woman President of the local branch of the RBL.
“After the service the parade was led by Redditch Sea Cadets to the War Memorial for wreath laying and the two minutes silence,” said Pam.
“There were so many people there waiting to participate and we were so pleased to see so many young people both in church, where there was standing room only it was so packed, and on the parade.
“We were lucky that the road was closed and I’d like to thank Sheila Lawes who organised it all, Astwood Bank Carnival and everyone else who contributed to make it such a wonderful day.”
