INSPIRED by the Rio Olympics? Then there’s plenty of reasons to get active in Redditch this Saturday (August 27) as part of the nation’s biggest sports day, I Am Team GB.

Just outside the town centre Gymophobics Redditch in Albert Street off Prospect Hill is organising a free open morning to get more people active in the local community and celebrate Team GB’s achievements at the Rio 2016 Games.

It runs from 9am to 1pm and everyone is welcome to go along and have a go.

Gymophobics manager Sue Aravanis said: “We are so pleased to put on this great event and be part of I Am Team GB. Sport brings communities closer together and we are immensely proud at Gymophobics to be part of this nationwide celebration of sport.”

Elsewhere in town those inspired by our track and field athletes can join the Arrow Valley parkrun, a free and friendly timed 5km run on Saturday morning too.

It’s open to runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities and starts at 9am from the main car park by the visitor centre off Battens Drive.

It’s not a race and all are welcome.

Meanwhile up on the Ridgeway on Evesham Road, Cookhill village hall between 10am and 1pm there will be a chance to try out your musical talents on a range of instruments provided by the Academy of Artistic Xpression.

Then from 2pm until 5pm there will be free judo sessions run by experts from Redditch Judo Kwai while Cookhill Cricket Club will be running taster sessions for people to get into the quintessentially English game of cricket.

Finally there’s a Rounders Fun Day for all the family at Alvechurch Cricket Club from 1pm to 8pm on Sunday (August 28). Go along and cheer them on or better still, have a go yourself. The club can be found on the Birmingham Road just after the village centre heading towards Birmingham.
