Gold award for caring service for bereaved at Redditch crematorium

REDDITCH Borough Council’s Bereavement Services team has been graded among the best in the country after receiving industry charter status accolades for the service it provides to the bereaved.

The Institute of Crematorium and Cemetery Management (ICCM) awarded the service its gold charter status for cremations, and silver for burials, after an in-depth assessment.

And the gold award puts the service in the top five per cent in the country, recognising its high standard of care and a wide variety of options so everyone in the community can arrange a funeral meaningful to them.

Kevin Dicks, Chief Executive of Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough councils, said: “We can be justifiably proud of our crematorium and the work of the bereavement services team.

“This award has been coming, because the team has kept on working to improve year on year and we are now able to say that they are officially recognised as providing amongst the very best services in the UK.”

The crematorium took the bronze charter in 2016 and progressed to silver last year before claiming gold this time around.

Bereavement Services Manager Mike Birkinshaw said: “These awards are a reflection of the sustained hard work and efforts of all the team here, as we support people who have been bereaved.

“The ICCM’s charter covers 400 questions across how we deal with people, our procedures, our grounds maintenance, communications and environmental issues, and we’re proud to have achieved these awards.”
