Green-fingered residents at St David’s appeal for help with their garden

GREEN-fingered residents at St David’s House and Queen’s Cottages in Batchley are appealing for volunteers to help in their garden.

The residents have started up their first Garden Club with the help of a new activity and engagement worker, Gillian Talbot.

The hope is to create a sensory area for all of the tenants to enjoy once the weather picks up – growing flowers, herbs and vegetables and perhaps hold a barbecue or two.

However, they need help with some of the heavier work, such as digging or clearing weeds as well as painting fences.

They are also appealing for donations of plants to get the garden growing.

“A beautiful garden is a work of art and this community project certainly has a lot of that,” said Coun Julian Grubb, whose portfolio covers Community Services.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for all of the residents whether they are in the Gardening Club or just want to enjoy some time outdoors and it’s great they want to get the wider community involved too.”

St David’s House manager Liz Griffiths added: “We had wonderful support last year from ‘Home Soil’, funded by Redditch Borough Council and led by local volunteer hub BARN, working in partnership with Redditch Community Shed and Community Gardener Alistair Waugh, who helped us plant and develop our garden area at St David’s House.

“Tenants and staff would really appreciate volunteer support to help us make the most of our garden space.”
