Green space grants up for grabs as Severn Trent marks Games support

GREEN COMMUNITY projects can apply for funding from Severn Trent.

To celebrate the water company’s partnership with Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games it has launched a Community Fund to help groups that specifically aim to take care of nature and the environment.

Grants of £5,000, £10,000 and £20,000 are available for non-profit organisations and local charities with an income of less than £500,000 averaged over three years.

Organisations from across the Severn Trent region are eligible to apply for support for their new project idea.

The Community Fund is looking for community projects that create and enhance green spaces and offset carbon, that help to reduce the carbon footprint of community spaces and activities and preserve water and reduce usage.

Community fund officer Natalie Cunningham said: “As the Official Nature and Carbon Neutral of supporter of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the idea of temporarily refocusing our Community Fund to support projects that help take care of nature and look after the local environment was an obvious thing to do.”

Applications for the funding is open until February 20.

Interested organisations should book onto one of Severn Trent’s application workshops throughout January.

Finalists will be shortlisted by an independent Community Fund panel and public voting will begin in April.
