GRITTERS will be out on the roads of Redditch tonight as temperatures are set to plummet below zero.
The highways team will head out onto the county’s primary routes for a precautionary gritting from 6.30pm tonight (Monday) after a cold weather alert was issued by the Met Office.
Temperatures are predicted to reach – 7 degrees in places and after a bright, dry afternoon with only small amounts of cloud it will remain clear and dry overnight.
This means the road surface temperatures will fall widely below freezing from around mid evening, with a patchy frost developing in places.
The outlook for tomorrow morning remains cold with a sunny start to the day.
Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member with responsibility for Highways, said: “Winter seems to be making its presence known and it is forecast to get much colder over the next few days.
“Our gritting teams will be out and about to help keep you moving but this doesn’t guarantee the roads will be as safe as usual.
“Please take extra care and watch out for icy patches even if a road has been treated. We can predict exactly where and when it will be icy so don’t assume it is safe to travel at normal speeds.”
