YOUNGSTERS have had some half term holiday fun this week when a play area and pond in Church Hill were officially re-opened after a makeover.
Following the installation of a brand new play area at Willow Trees Community Centre, Redditch Borough Council has worked in partnership with Church Hill Big Local to replace the old play area at Northleach/Upperfield Close.
The play area and surrounding open space improvements were completed using funding support from local S106 monies, North Worcestershire Water Management funding with support funding from the Church Hill Big Local group.
Old wooden sleeper retaining walls have been replaced by a recycled plastic version for a sustained approach and brand new equipment has been installed, including a basket nest swing, junior swings, toddler swings (which includes a mother/toddler swing seat), two climbing units for junior and toddler age ranges with slides, spinning dish and see-saw.
The pond area has been cleared and improved by the North Worcester Water Management team with support from the council’s place and parks team. Recycled fencing has also been put up to improve safety and security.
Pathway works to the main access of the play area are scheduled to be commenced following the half term holiday period.
Portfolio-holder for Leisure Councillor Pat Witherspoon said: “We are very proud of our parks and green spaces and I am delighted the youngsters can now enjoy this latest investment by the Council.
“A big thank you to Church Hill Big Local whose help, support and input has been invaluable to get the park the makeover that it needed. I know that children across the borough – especially those in Church Hill – will really benefit from this top class play area.”
