An address from the Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Mike Chalk:
FELLOW residents of Redditch, as someone who is of a certain age and with underlying medical conditions and who has been staying at home for all of the past few weeks, I can commiserate with everyone who has followed the rules and have also been staying at home.
As Mayor of Redditch I have missed the opportunities of meeting many of you at the usual Mayoral activities and being able to raise money for my chosen charities.
Although I am not able to be out in the community, I am still working on behalf of the town in my capacity as Mayor and Borough Councillor.
I am also delighted to join with many of you to spend a few minutes on a Thursday evening to clap and give thanks and support for the magnificent effort our NHS workers.
They are putting their own lives at risk to save more and more of the sufferers of this unprecedented virus.
I am sad to learn that despite this, there are a few members of our community who are ignoring the rules and meeting in public.
Meanwhile, many lawns will be better after being mown twice a week and those windows will look better having been cleaned.
I am sure there are more things we can do to be ready for the time when life returns to some form of normality.
I cannot wait to resume my role as Mayor and to help rebuild the town and to thank all the voluntary groups that have done so much to reduce the impact of the crisis.
Please Stay Home. Stay Safe.
