A REDDITCH care home was the centre of much celebration this week with one of its residents turning the grand age of 108.
Hilda Clulow was surrounded by friends and family in the lounge of Bowood Court Care Home on Tuesday (March 15) to celebrate her landmark birthday in style.
The group toasted Hilda with glasses of sparkling Buck’s Fizz and were in strong voice with a lusty rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’.
Hilda, who lived independently up until July of last year, was born in Selly Park in 1908 and worked as a seamstress.
Her son, Barry, said he can remember his mother making his school clothes – particularly during the Second World War.
Hilda was the third oldest of six children and is sadly the only surviving sibling. She married her husband, Arthur, in 1937 and the pair used to particularly enjoy taking rides on their tandem together.
Hilda, a great grandmother of six, said she had very much enjoyed her special day and although she wasn’t sure what the secret to such a long life is, she did agree she has had a good one, ‘seen lots of things’ and ‘done well’.
The Hewell Road site is home to two other centenarians and both residents and staff looking forward to hosting a 103rd birthday party next month.
