THREE generations from one family are singing the praises of spending time together after joining a Redditch community choir.
Ten year-old Spencer Mayne, his aunt April Powell and Grandma Jane Powell have been united by a shared love of music discovered with Choirs Connected – a group launched in March this year aiming to connect families through singing.
Spencer and his family joined the choir set up by classically trained musician Maria Brannelly, and after just ten rehearsals, alongside 62 other performers, took to the stage at the Palace Theatre for a concert last week (July 4)
On the day they not only celebrated a shared family achievement, but also Spencer’s to tenth birthday.
Maria, founder and musical director of Choirs Connected in Redditch, said: “The idea was to get one adult and one child from the same family to come along and experience the joy of singing as part of a group.
“We wanted to get adults and children working together towards a common goal and it has been a great opportunity to experience the joy of singing in a group and spend some quality time with a loved one.
“The concert went really well and I couldn’t be happier- we had lots of happy participants and audience.
“There is a growing swell of enthusiasm surrounding the choir and the feel good factor seems to be taking hold. We’re looking forward to more people joining the choir next term,” she added.
