Have your say! - Anti-social behaviour and vandalism spike prompts Arrow Valley Country Park CCTV consultation

Redditch Editorial 26th Jan, 2024   0

A CONSULTATION on whether to install CCTV at Arrow Valley Country Park is being held after the beauty spot fell victim to a spate of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

The proposal for CCTV is being supported by West Mercia Police and the council’s Community Safety Team after they received numerous reports of poor behaviour, damage and vandalism, particularly around the playground and visitor centre.

Both organisations are now calling upon residents and visitors to have their say on whether they think installing CCTV in the parks is the appropriate course of action to combat this behaviour.

The proposal is for the CCTV camera to cover the playground at the park and the immediate surrounding area, initially on a temporary basis with the option for a permanent fixture should the trial work in deterring the negative behaviours.

Coun Lucy Harrison, from Redditch Borough Council, said: “In light of the concerns regarding anti-social behaviour and vandalism at the park, it is essential we take action, not only to avoid unnecessary costs for taxpayers in repairing damages but also to provide park users with the assurance of a safe, enjoyable environment.

“Your insights are crucial to this, so we’re encouraging everyone to actively participate in the consultation and help inform decisions that could have a significant impact on the safety of our community.”

The proposal is for the camera to be remotely monitored by the councils CCTV Monitoring Centre. The camera will record 24/7 and when not actively being controlled by an operator will run an automated tour of predefined locations within the camera view.

Council leader Coun Matt Dormer added: “With support from the police, we are dedicated to enhancing the safety of our community and ensuring that Arrow Valley Park remains an enjoyable space for all and isn’t spoilt by a minority.

“Your input is important to shaping council decisions, so please make sure you have your say.”

Residents can give their views at smartsurvey.co.uk/s/AVCP-CCTVConsultation2024/ before the deadline of next Saturday, February 4.
