Have your say on proposals for a new walking and cycling network in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 6th Nov, 2023   0

PEOPLE have the chance to share their thoughts about a new proposed network of walking and cycling routes across Redditch.

A four-week engagement exercise launched last week and the outcome will inform the development of Redditch’s first Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).

A LCWIP sets out a long-term plan for delivering new or improved infrastructure for walking and cycling.

In line with national guidance, it focuses on areas where there is a larger density of population and therefore the greatest opportunity to increase levels of cycling and walking.

Redditch County Councillor Mike Rouse and the authority’s cabinet member for Highways and Transport said “We’re working on a new cycle network plan for Redditch, and we’d really like to hear what people think about it.

“This new plan is important because it helps us secure funding from the Department for Transport. This funding isn’t just for cycling, but also for road repairs.

“We want everyone in Redditch to tell us what they think about our new routes.

“We know Redditch already has some good cycle paths, but we aim to make them even better.

“We want to emphasise this is just a draft. Nothing’s final yet. Your feedback truly matters and will shape the final plan.

“This is your opportunity to have a say and help us make the best decisions for Redditch. We’re listening, and we want to work together to get this right.”

The public survey will inform the LCWIP document which is due to be drafted and submitted for further engagement during 2024.

Visit www.worcestershire.gov.uk/RedditchLCWIP to complete the survey.

The engagement exercise runs until November 24.
