Headless Cross gearing up for annual Apple Day

Redditch Editorial 29th Sep, 2023   0

NEXT weekend Redditch welcomes back its annual ‘Apple Day’ organised by the volunteers at Headless Cross Community Orchard, writes Jessica Blissitt.

Live music, apple juicing, and community booths will be available, as well as an appearance from Spoz, the former Birmingham Poet Laureate.

Everyone is welcome to the event which runs from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, October 7, and includes fan favourites such as the Annual Cider Competition and the Apple Olympics.

Since 2009, volunteers have helped conserve the Headless Cross Community Orchard as a leisure place by planting Worcestershire fruit trees and two years later ‘Apple Day’ returned to bring the community together.

The orchard also encourages the community to give back by asking that any excess fruit and vegetables be donated to its Harvest Stall.

Traditional Morris dancing will be performed throughout the day by the Nancy Butterfly Morris Dancers and the Erstwhile Border Morris Side.

The impressive line-up features the Uke Men League, Revenge of the Wrinklies and the Debbie Joynes and Garth Kirkham Duo.

It promises to be a great day out for all ages.

Admission is free and people wanting to find out more can visit the ‘Headless Cross Apple Day’ Facebook page or email [email protected] for more information.
