BOROUGH Mayor Councillor Gareth Prosser was on hand to throw the switch to put on the Christmas lights at Headless Cross Green on Monday night.
The big switch paves the way for the seventh Carols on the Green event on Christmas Eve where the local community turns out carrying lanterns and torches to sing traditional carols accompanied by Arrow Valley Brass band.
In the process they’ve managed to raise thousands of pounds for the Primrose Hospice and will be once again supporting them this year.
The event takes place from 4.30pm on the Green and will be followed by a family party for those wanting to at the Rocklands Social Club.
Organisers Rachel Evans and Becky Rose said: “Coun Joanne Beecham has been amazing at supporting this event this year, and we have also been extremely fortunate to have had financial backing from County Councillors Mike Rouse and Craig Warhurst.”
