A YOUNG team of Redditch footballers has netted a grand cash donation – allowing them to buy much-need new kits.

Headless Cross Under 9s football team – a squad that has outgrown their football kit – received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The grant comes courtesy of the ho usebuilder’s national Community Champions scheme which awards funding to charities each month.

Leon West, manager at Headless Cross FC, said: “We were desperately trying to find a sponsor and have been raising funds so we can provide the children with kit that fits, is warm and looks smart.

“We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes South Midlands for their donation and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We aim to provide fun and exercise to children who love to play football. The club is run entirely by volunteers and we’re a non-profit club.”

Carol Selway, head of sales at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, added: “We’re extremely proud to be supporting Headless Cross Under 9’s Team.

“We know that many of the children who live in the area play for the team, so we’re glad we can give something back to the local community.”

Charities can apply for up to £1,000 each month. Visit the Persimmon website for more details.
