A HEALTH campaigner has said she has been left frustrated after a meeting with health bosses regarding the return of maternity and children’s service to Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.
Kirsty Southwell joined with MP Rachel Maclean to make their case for the return of the services, to new Chief Executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Glen Burley.
Although the meeting was positive, the services will not be returning.
Kirsty said she was disappointed with the outcome of the meeting, but would continue to campaign.
She said: “I strongly believe that local access can improve things for patients but I can’t make any promises about being able to return a fully functioning maternity services, it is really hard to do from where we are today.
“We need a fully functioning hospital again people are waiting several hours for an ambulance or waiting in hospital.
“I know it’s not what we wanted to hear but we are still fighting we just need to get louder.”
Mrs Maclean added: “Following our meeting, the new Chief Executive can be in no doubt about the services residents want to be provided at the Alex.
“I’ve always believed in the art of the possible, and we will continue to make the case for these services to be returned to the Alex.
“Our conversations with the Trust won’t stop here as we won’t rest until a maternity and children’s service is provided at the Alex once again.”
