BUSINESS leaders in Redditch got an update on expansion plans for Heathrow Airport and advice on exporting at the latest get-together organised by MP Karen Lumley for local captains in industry.

Held at Osprey House, part of Heart of Worcestershire College in Albert Street, a busy agenda confronted the 30 top managers, representing businesses in and around town.

Maya Jani, expansion procurement director at Heathrow Airport was on hand to discuss the potential opportunities available for local manufacturing and engineering companies as part of its supply chain.

Phoebe Dawson, from Worcestershire Business Central and from Worcestershire LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) spoke about investment opportunities and funding within the county while Linda Smith, director for International Trade at the Department for International Trade (DIT) spoke about exporting opportunities for local businesses.

The final speaker was Sophia Haywood from Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce spoke about how the Chamber supports businesses who export.

Mrs Lumley, who didn’t attend the whole event as she is still recovering from illness, said: “My business leaders’ meetings go from strength to strength and we seem to find ever interesting and relevant speakers to present to them.

“As we approach Brexit, I felt it was important to provide local businesses with as much help and advice as possible to enable them to spread their wings and look at different markets in which to export, and the speakers today were brilliant.”

Any business which wants to be invited to future meetings should e-mail Mrs Lumley on [email protected] . The next meeting is scheduled for June 23.
