High flying Redditch duo taking off to boost vital cancer charity

Redditch Editorial 21st Dec, 2021   0

LOOK to the skies later today when paragliders and Redditch residents Mark Haden and Rich Ng zeederberg take to the skies in aid of the charity Children with Cancer UK.

The daring duo have been happily flying over Redditch to raise money for the good cause and today, at 2pm, they’ll be taking off to say a big ‘thank you’ to every who has supported them.

So far they’ve raised £800 and Mark is hoping they can push that total even further with today’s flight.

“It’s Christmas and it’s for children and you think of all the excitement around it and it’s just heartbreaking when you think of kids with cancer and what they and their families must be going through,” said Mark, an engineer and himself a dad.

“We’ve had some lovely feedback too from people who have spotted us overhead and really this flight is just our way of saying thank you.”

Mark first hit upon the idea of a fundraising flight by paramotor back in 2017 but the idea literally didn’t take off.

“The thing is these machines are just so light and you can get buffeted about a fair bit, and back then the weather was just rubbish,” he said.

“As a result I just covered by motorbike in Christmas decorations and road around town raising money that way, which brought in about £1,250. We’re hoping we can break that total this time.”

Mark and Rich will be taking off from a field by The Dog pub at Mappleborough Green at 2pm today, Tuesday, December 21, and aim to be in the air for around 90 minutes.
