Redditch Editorial 24th May, 2022   0

STEP back in time this Saturday, May 28, for a special book launch at Redditch Local History Museum on Church Green.

Local author Tony Aston will be launching his book Redditch: From the chip shop to the Batchley from 11am to 2pm.

Published by local firm Brewin Books, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the author, share a few reminisces and get him to sign a copy of the book should you buy one.

Tony Aston was born in 1953 in Redditch and grew up there until he was 16 years old.

In his book he explores memories of ordinary day-to-day life when the town, like hundreds of other towns and cities at that time, was striving to repair and re-invent itself after World War II.

He recalls the demolition of the old town and the building of the new as well as his personal memories of Christmas, food and drink, the Big Freeze of 1962/63, incidents and accidents, special people in his life, radio and television, all intertwined with significant national and international events.

Tony is a former Scotland Yard detective and counter-espionage specialist within the UK Defence Industry and in this, his first book, he weaves a narrative that is sure to delight readers whilst rekindling their own memories.

Pete Harris, a trustee at Redditch Local History Museum said: “We are proud that Brewin Books are using us to launch this new book.

“We are really making an impact on Redditch and of course we feature some fantastic displays of old Redditch and house countless archives and exhibits from the town’s past.”
