History society remembers Church Green

Redditch Editorial 11th Nov, 2023   0

REDDITCH History Society will continue its 2023 programme of illustrated talks with its forthcoming meeting on Monday, November 13, focusing on the history of Church Green.

The talk will be given by Graham Smith, the society’s treasurer, and is called ‘From Common to Posh: The History of Church Green to 1900’.

Graham has undertaken a lot of research on the histories of the businesses and families in the Church Green area, and his talk focuses on the buildings still in the town.

The Redditch History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre, 4 Plymouth Road at 2pm, usually on the second Monday of the month.

Non-members are very welcome to attend and the entrance fee is currently £3, refundable against the membership fee if joining at the meeting.

The society, now thriving again, will be moving back into the large room at the Oasis Centre for the rest of the season.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We are the only history society in the area which meets in the daytime, and our success means we are always looking for help.

“If any of our members – or visitors – feel they would like to contribute towards the running of the society in any capacity, including refreshments, please volunteer at this meeting.”
