Homeowners hit out after plans submitted for HMO in Redditch

HOMEOWNERS on a street in Redditch have hit out about plans to turn a semi-detached house into a home of multiple occupancy (HMO).

Those living in the same street and surrounding area have voiced opposition to the project which would see 23 Foxlydiate Crescent be turned into a home for eight people.

Resident Brian O’Gorman said he was concerned the amount of people living in the home would affect the parking.

He said: “The property has no on-site parking, not one place – it is accessed up a path, four houses from the road.

“Any cars relating to this proposal would have to park on the main road, which is busy main road through Batchley estate, used by many cars and buses.

“There is a bus stop right by this access path.”

He is also concerned about the increase in noise.

“Assuming eight single people move in, it is obviously going to impact what is a peaceful, quiet friendly neighbourhood.

“There will be more movement of people, extra noise, disturbance and potential neighbourhood friction.”

Elderly people live in close proximity to the property and Brian is worried the noise of the development will disturb them.

Property management company Chuffin’ Chimney and architects Highbury Design jointly own the property and are developing it into a HMO.

Director of Chuffin’ Chimney, Emma Land said: “Our aim is to offer affordable, comfortable housing for the working people of Redditch – many of whom are key workers and hospital staff.

“Chuffin’ Chimney manages multiple HMOs across Redditch. All are well-maintained, fully compliant, and have integrated smoothly into their communities.

“We personally vet every tenant through strict referencing and conduct regular inspections to ensure high standards are maintained.

“Furthermore, the HMO will be licensed and subject to council inspections.

“We understand parking can be a concern and because of this, we have monitored availability at various times  and found consistent space in the communal parking areas.

“Additionally, only a small number of our tenants own vehicles, with many relying on nearby public transport.”

Ms Land has said any residents with problems or concerns could email [email protected] to discuss them.
