Horror for Redditch couple who find unexpected extra in their curry

A HORRIFIED Redditch couple discovered an extra ingredient in their Tesco curry last weekend – an entire J-cloth sealed inside the ready-meal.

Chris Harper and his wife Emma purchased the chicken tikka masala ready-meal from Tesco on Coldfield Drive last Saturday (January 28) and were horrified to find a complete cleaning cloth vacuum sealed inside the pack.

“Usually, it would have just gone straight into the freezer, but luckily for us on this occasion we opened it up for my son to eat there and then.

“My wife cried out ‘oh my god’ when she saw it. It was just so unexpected,”said the Wirehill resident.

“I have no idea how that got through quality control.”

The pair quickly returned to the Tesco store with the unpleasant packet of Tesco’s Indian Kitchen Chicken Tikka Masala with pilau rice where they were given a replacement meal and a courtesy £10 voucher.

“The lady as the service desk told us she had never seen anything like it in all her years working for Tesco.

“I’m not completely sure who makes this curry for Tesco but their quality control needs some serious investigation,” said Mr Harper.

However the family also said the experience will not affect how they eat in future: “We will continue to buy and eat ready-meals, but I must admit it does make you wonder what gets missed and you might end up consuming,” said Chris.

He has since written a letter to Tesco’s chief executive officer David Lewis and has received their apologies and assurance that the episode is under investigation.

A spokesperson from Tesco said: “We have robust food quality processes in place during the preparation and packaging of this product, so we were surprised to hear about this incident. We are investigating what may have happened and will keep Mr Harper updated.”
