THE crowds came out in their hundreds on Saturday as Redditch marked the final bandstand event of the year with the huge community festival complete with Tommy Wilson’s Funfair.

Let by samba band Oya Batacuda, which danced through the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, there was music, dance and lots of community projects for all to enjoy, plus food from around the world.

Not only that, with a £500 holiday voucher up for grabs the fancy dress competition was hotly contested with Little Bat Girl Trixie O’Prey clinching the top prize from Amal Afzal’s Princess and Lexi Conlon’s Wonder Woman.

“It went well beyond my wildest dreams,” said co-organiser Sue Yeng.

“The samba band plus all the community groups really made it, along with the funfair and I would like to thank Redditch Borough Council for all their help too.”

Councillor Bill Hartnett, the leader of the borough council said: “This was the final one of the year and it was great to see all the acts perform.

“There were lots of smiles and thankfully the rain held off – it was a great day.

“I always enjoy the Bandstand season it gives a chance for the wealth of talent from Redditch to perform and for us to enjoy it all.”
