THE funeral was held on Tuesday of popular Redditch teenager Carrick Daniel Prentice-Underwood.

Carrick, the son of Rob and Maggie Underwood, died on January 11 aged just 19.

In a service held to celebrate the life of Carrick at Redditch Crematorium, there were tears a-plenty but also laughter as the assembled throng – too many to fit into the hall – remembered a talented young man who died too soon.

The service was conducted by Jacqui Mason-Dipple who spoke of the many highs of Carrick’s short life, his infectious sense of humour, his skill as a chef and his love of Minis and motorbikes.

He had been best man at Rob and Maggie’s wedding and played a key role in their charity, Charlotte and Craig’s Saving Hearts Foundation.

Mourners entered to the sound of Michael Jackson’s ‘Gone Too Soon’ and there was more music with LeAnn Rimes’s ‘Please Remember Me’ and the throng left to the sound of Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth singing ‘See You Again’.

Rob and Maggie had already lost two of their children to rare heart conditions – Charlotte Marie in December 2010 and Craig in December 2013 – leading to the launch of their charity which has seen hundreds of life saving defibrillators installed in public places across the West Midlands.

Following the service Carrick was laid to rest in the Abbey Cemetery.

Carrick’s coffin, carried in a motorcycle and sidecar, had been flanked by a host of motorcyclists on its journey to the crematorium.

Maggie said: “We would like to thank all the biking community who came out for Carrick, Redditch Charity Bikers and Midlands Freewheel Blood Bikers.

“Also the Oast House for letting us invade their premises, Spotted Redditch and Claire Bott for raising so much money for Carrick’s funeral and the 80s Tropicana Night which has helped pay for his headstone.

“Arrow Vale in Partnership who donated the fabulous buffet for the Wake, everyone who brought a Mini along and of course Jacqui Mason-Dipple, Thomas Brothers and finally our friends and family and all Carrick’s friends for their support over the past few weeks.”
