I feel disappointment of not seeing family too - Redditch MP Rachel Maclean

THIS pandemic has taken so much from us this year and still it continues to wreak havoc on our lives.

Christmas has also fallen victim to the pandemic too.

I know the decision to only allow Christmas bubbles of no more than three households to meet on just Christmas Day will be disappointing for many – I feel that disappointment too.

The Government had to take swift and decisive action in the face of a new strain of Covid-19.

Like many, many others, I’m really sad I won’t see my adult children who live in Tier 4 London this Christmas, nor will I be seeing my parents either. But I accept this is for the best.

Despite all of this, Christmas is a time to remember and reflect on what we have to be grateful for, and even after what we’ve been going through, there are still many things I am grateful for.

I’m grateful to be in good health, to have my family and to still be working in a job I love.

I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas. I hope, despite the severely reduced festivities this year, you can still enjoy this time and have a well-deserved break from work.

To all frontline and essential workers, thank you.

Thank you for all you’ve done this year and continue to do over the Christmas period.

As we head towards the end of the year, this time is usually filled with a sense of optimism. We need this optimism more than ever as we head into 2021.

I sincerely hope, with the vaccine being rolled out, 2021 is a better year for all of us.
