VILLAGE councillor Adam Kent will be striding out for the Wythall Memory Cafe in London.
Coun Kent, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member and Wythall representative and district councillor for Hollywood, used some of his divisional funds to help get the cafe off the ground last month.
The Memory Cafe, on Wythall Allotments, is run by dedicated community volunteers and is aimed at combating memory loss and loneliness among the village’s older residents.
Coun Kent previously ran the London Marathon in 2017 with friends, helping raise more than £10,000 for the Get A-Head charity which helps those with head and neck cancer.
He said: ”I said after the pain of that event I would never do another marathon but I have been so impressed with the brilliant work the team does at the memory cafe I wanted to do something dramatic to help.
“It’s fabulous to see what community involvement can achieve for local residents and it’s a model that needs to be rolled out.
“The money I raise, will, I hope, allow the cafe to expand further and provide an example to many communities of the art of the possible.”
Coun Kent intended to take on last year’s marathon but he picked up a knee injury and was forced to defer until this year.
He added: ”Training last year was bang on – I did the mileage and paid the price, this year has been far harder with council and work commitments. But I am determined to get around so I can provide the much-needed funds for the local community.”
