MORE THAN 250 people were given a hot meal on Christmas Eve, thanks to Redditch Labour Party and volunteers.

The event was started by Redditch Borough Council Leader, Coun Joe Baker, 13 years ago.

He was full of praise for everyone who helped make the event such a success.

He said: “I am so grateful for the support of members and friends who give up their valuable time to volunteer to cook, peel, prepare and deliver these meals to those in need each Christmas Eve.

“This year we have cooked and delivered over 250 meals.

“I would like to thank everyone who volunteered, those who made donations, and to St Andrews Church for allowing us again to use their venue.

“It was a real team effort.”

Reflecting on the time since the event started, Coun Baker added: “We have come a long way in 13 years from helping just a handful of people in a small kitchen to now helping hundreds get a hot meal and a friendly knock on the door.

“Our next event will be the School Uniform Bank in the summer so remember to save and donate your unwanted school uniforms.”
