Inclusive play programme agreed for Redditch's Arrow Valley

REDDITCH Borough Council is aiming to make play accessible to everyone as it launches a new policy for inclusive play provisions.

At the executive meeting on Tuesday, Coun Juliet Barker Smith, portfolio holder for leisure and recreation, proposed a new scheme to ensure the playground at Arrow Valley Lake was completely inclusive for children with disabilities.

Coun Barker Smith said they aimed to get the playground PiPA accredited, which meant it would be independently assessed to meet the requirements using a five point system.

There is only one playground in the UK which has Gold Level PIPA accreditation, which is in Staffordshire.

Coun Barker Smith said: “We are aiming to make the playground at Arrow Valley Lake the second and will look into the possibility of making the play area at Morton Stanley Park accredited as well.

“This is on top of the scheduled list of play areas due to be refurbished and the investment we plan to put into areas that have less provision than they should.

“So tonight’s meeting was the beginning of a really exciting journey to support the children of our town and I was proud to be part of it.”
