Inkberrow Football Club aims for one million 'keepie uppies' in fundraising challenge

THE nation may be in lockdown but that hasn’t stopped the stars at Inkberrow Football Club from tackling a mammoth fundraising challenge.

The outfit, which runs 28 teams from junior boys and girls to senior ladies and men’s teams as well as a walking football XI, has embarked on a bid to record one million ‘keepie uppies’ to help fund the re-building of their pavillion and sports ground.

“We’re in the middle of a massive re-development and all our fundraising opportunities last year had to be cancelled so we’re doing this to keep everyone engaged and help bring in some money,” said Ed Wallis, who, as well as being a trustee and director of the club is also the Under-14s coach and licensee.

“Thanks to some Section 106 money from the developers of the new housing estate in the village and a grant from the Football Foundation we’ve acquired some more land for two new football pitches and we’re also doubling the size of the pavillion, all funded through grants and other funds.

“However last year things like our beer festival and bonfire party had to be cancelled, hence this initiative.”

Ed said all the coaches would be contacting the players so the keepie uppies could be recorded and if possible, filmed.

“We’ve got some useful players from five to 65 – one lad can do 700 or 800 straight off – while our five year olds can have a go with a balloon.

“The important thing is to get motivated and give it a go.”
