KEEP calm and carry on – that’s the message sent out by the ladies of the Inner Wheel Club of Redditch.
In these strange times you can either go into hibernation or you can get busy and make a difference.
Some 30 members of the Inner Wheel chose the latter and started knitting and in just three weeks they managed to produce and collect together :-
27 sets of hearts to give to patients in hospital who were separated from their loved ones
15 blankets of all sizes, including baby blankets and little hats for the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham
17 Twiddle muffs for dementia patients
33 scrub bags for the NHS
In addition they also collected a huge amount of toiletries, sanitary products and snacks for the ‘Well Being stall’ run by Jason Levy from the Trust’s charity at The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for NHS staff.
They also collected a food mountain for Batchley Support Group, the Food Bank in Redditch and St Basil’s Homes in Redditch and Bromsgrove.
Not content with that, they also raided their cupboards for games, dominoes, cards, puzzles and such like for the young people at St Basils homes, who were in isolation in their rooms and unable to use the central lounge.
“All were gratefully received and it shows what can be done in a short space of time when we all pull together, confirming our motto -Together we can!” said Inner Wheel spokeswoman Pat Pritchard.
