HEART of Worcestershire College has been nominated for the Times Educational Supplement’s ‘Outstanding use of technology for improving teaching, learning and assessment’ award for the second time in three years.
Emerging as winners of the same award in 2015, the College’s ILT team are elated to be nominated for the second time in three years. The award recognises the College’s work in setting up and leading one of the largest national collaborative projects ever in Further Education; The Blended Learning Consortium.
The Consortium is made up of over 80 colleges who work collaboratively to co-fund the development of interactive online learning resources which are then shared with all member colleges. The resources are written by curriculum experts from across the consortium. The HoW ILT Team along with those from other colleges then create interactive, engaging learning resources that improve vocational skills and support academic studies.
The consortium, through pooling of resources is making huge efficiency savings for all member colleges.
Rather than one college spending £5,000 on developing its own resources and getting £5,000 worth of resource in return, this collaborative approach means all members get over £400,000 worth of resources for their £5,000 contribution.
This means that each college is making a saving of £400,000 which when multiplied across all members comes to an annual saving of over £32 million per year.
Winners will be announced at the TES Further Education Awards ceremony on Friday, February 24, 2017.
The college has campuses across the county, including one at Redditch.
