Inspiring: Ice Maiden Major Hennis at Beaver and Cub Scout awards night

Redditch Editorial 9th Jul, 2018   0

ICE Maiden team leader Major Sandy Hennis was guest of honour at a special awards evening for Redditch District Beaver and Cub Scouts last Monday.

The event, held Redditch Town Hall, saw more than 60 Beaver and Cub Scouts from across Redditch receive their Bronze and Silver awards respectively – the highest award they can achieve within their section.

Redditch’s very own Major Hennis, who lef the first all-female trek across Antarctica on foot in 2017, was there to present the awards along with Ann Clark, the Deputy County Commissioner, and Mike McAuliffe, District Commissioner for Redditch, together with Bertie Beaver.

Major Hennis gave an inspirational talk to the young members linking her expedition to the skills that are learnt through the Scout Movement.

She also brought with her some of the equipment she used to help her through the gruelling expedition.

District Beaver Scout Leader said Lesley Spencer: “Thank you too to the Town Hall for continuing to support us with this important event for the young members.”
