PUPILS and staff at Ipsley CE RSA Academy, in Winyates held a remembrance service on Friday (November 11), to remember the men and women of the armed forces who fought and died for their country.

Pupils carried personal messages of remembrance on paper poppy crosses and each class planted a wooden cross to create a garden of remembrance.

Head Boy, Elliot Birch, led the service and Head Girl, Dylan Wilding, read the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae.

The whole school fell silent at 11am for two minutes before a prayer was read by the Principal, Ms Beech.

Year 5 pupil, Josh Humphries said: “It felt really special with all 600 pupils of the school being together to remember those who risked their lives or died for us.”

In the run up to Remembrance Day, a series of assemblies explained the reasons for the use of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance and examined remembrance around the world.
